What would you suggest as a replacement for ArcGIS viewerfor Flex?

I know you addressed this to Bjorn, but my suggestion is Web AppBuilder. It is currently in Beta 3 but will be released in conjunction with ArcGIS 10.3. It is modeled after ArcGIS Viewer for Flex and is JavaScript API based. Developers like myself have already started work on widgets for this product.
