I’m the admin for a large edu ArcGIS Online Org and like a lot of other edu orgs we’re now in the crosshairs for resolving a file storage and storage credit usage issue that we have no way to directly control. I’ve just seen the latest release demo for the next version AGO and all I see in the way of new admin tools are new more granular reports and user facing credit reporting. But still NO WAY to directly limit how much a user can store in AGO or how many storage credits they can use per cycle.
No matter how granular these reports get, the only real action we can take as admins is to email the user and ask them to “please” clean up their content. Or more drastically, suspend users on a case-by-case basis. For orgs with 3000+ active users and more added every quarter, that is a recipe for 24/7 admin monitoring of the org. Esri is passing on a credit issue they created to the users and admins with no tools to support them.
These are my suggestions for admin tools that Esri can create now to actually enable us to get control of our credit spending problems in AGO.
AGO admins need to be able to…
- Set user limits on how large in MBs their total combined Contents storage can be.
- Set user limits on how large in MBs any one file in Contents can be.
- Set a limit or cap to how many organizational storage credits a user can consume in a given time period.
- Set limits on how many features can be in a single Feature Service.
- Prevent the upload of certain file types like Project Packages or Service Definitions.
