Experience Builder authors keep their ArcGIS Online profile language set to English because documentation, troubleshooting resources, Community discussions, and support materials are primarily available in English. However, many public-facing applications are created for local users and need a different default language.
Currently, the default (source) language of an Experience Builder application appears to be tied to the language used when the application was created. Once the application exists, there is no obvious way to change the source language. As a result, authors may find themselves in a situation where:
- their ArcGIS Online profile language is English,
- the application content is written primarily in another language,
- English becomes the source language,
- and it is not possible to easily switch the source language later.
This creates problems when configuring translations and the Language Switcher widget. In some cases, the only workaround is to recreate the application from scratch using a different profile language, which is impractical for larger projects.
I would like to propose adding the ability to explicitly set or change the default language of an Experience Builder application, independently of the author's profile language. A good example already exists in Survey123, where the default language of a survey can be managed directly as part of translation configuration.
