Question about sign-in in ArcGIS Pro app

Hello all. I am just starting an ArcGIS course in university and already running into issues, probably self-caused. When going to sign in in the ArcGIS Pro app, I went to the sign in online option, which brought me to a perpetually loading browser tab. I tried changing the link to my University login under the Configure Licensing link, but the issue persists. It looks like there is no option to switch back to in-app sign in. I tried reinstalling, no luck. Still an online-only sign in with a seemingly broken loading page. Not sure what to do here, or if any such issue has been encountered before. Any thoughts are appreciated.

Try these steps (most common fixes for the “browser tab loads forever” ArcGIS Pro sign-in):

1) If you can’t reach that setting that Jon mentioned, flip it in the Windows Registry

* Close ArcGIS Pro
* Open Registry Editor
* Go to:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ESRI\ArcGIS Online for Pro\SignIn
* Set SignInFromBrowser to:* 0 = use in-app sign-in
* 1 = force browser sign-in

2) If your university uses ArcGIS Enterprise SSO, it may be missing the redirect URI back to Pro

If sign-in succeeds in the browser but never returns to Pro, your portal admin may need to register ArcGIS Pro redirect URIs. Reference: Sign in to your organization—Provide ArcGIS Pro redirect URIs

I would try opening ArcGIS Pro and going to settings/portals/ and switching the sign in using browser to off. Then close the program and try to open it again and sign in.

If that doesn't work, I would check that:

* You can sign into the university's ArcGIS online account through the web.
* Contact your university GIS course or IT to get things sorted out. I assume they could help you with this.
