Ability to filter pages out of a hub catalog

I manage a publicly shared hub and would like to filter pages out of the hub catalog. The new settings allow you to filter them out of all the collections except for the "All content". It would be great to remove them from All content or from the catalog entirely.

We don’t want our pages to appear in the Hub catalog as the individual pages aren’t content that we want discoverable and could confuse users. Also none of our other (non-geospatial) data catalogs include website pages in their catalogues, and we have a policy to make them as consistent as possible.

We have been putting off migrating the pages (New experience for managing your site’s pages in w... - Esri Community) because migrating them adds them to the content group and makes them visible in the hub catalog. Having this additional setting would mean that we could migrate the pages over.

I would expect these new settings would come under “1. Set filters” with the ability to add a “Filter 2: types”.

We would like to remove the pages from the catalog because we would like the catalog to only contain GIS data. I think if you had a large catalog with a variety of data types the hub pages wouldn't be obvious. With a small catalog that contains mostly feature layers the hub pages are evidently out of place. To me the hub pages appearing in the catalog would be confusing to the public and look kind of unprofessional.

I am currently investigating the new functionality within workspaces and the catalog and would also like to remove pages from the catalog.

My customers use an ArcGIS Hub site like a website where their users can discover data. The pages associated with the Hub are not considered data to these users, instead they want to provide easy and quick access to web services that others can use in their maps & apps etc. Including pages in the catalog adds confusion.

I think it is great that we can now edit and manage pages separately but I think they should be treated differently to the datasets that can be shared via the hub.

Would raising a support case help to make any progress with this?

Hi again @JustinPrather - I think I may have found a workaround for this.

I have been using a test site with test pages and groups for this so I have not tried this in a Production environment site with live data. However, the steps I have taken are:

1. Create a group for content - this should be viewable by everyone and contain the publicly available datasets that you want displayed in your catalog. For my test, I have a couple of test feature services shared into this group.

2. Create a group for pages (and any other "hidden" content) - this should be viewable by group members only. The pages still remain public. For my test, I have two pages in this group.

3. Add both groups to your catalog within the hub site.

4. I had a few links to the pages on my hub site homepage - in a header, in a gallery, in a text box. I also have a search bar on my home page.

5. Share the Hub, pages, and content publicly.

6. Open the site in an incognito tab/new browser window so you aren't signed in.

7. Open your hub site and click on the links to the pages - they all load as expected. What we didn't want to see here was the page not found error.

8. Click enter in the search bar to open the data catalog page. For me, I only see the feature services shared into the content group that is viewable by everyone. The pages are not displayed in the list.

Overall, pages are still connected to the hub because they are in a content group but that group is not viewable by the public so the pages do not appear on the catalog list. If you had a member of your organisation signed in, and they were in that group, they would see those pages in the catalog.

I think this will work for me but it would still be nice to have the option within Hub to configure the item types you would like to see on the Hub. In some cases, you may not even want to show applications as they are already viewable on a specific page but the catalog is more for where the end users can download the data in those apps.

Hi again,

I carried out further testing after the steps above by viewing my public Hub site whilst logged in to another ArcGIS Online account. While logged in I could see the pages listed in the catalog, despite the group still having the setting that it is only viewable by group members.

@JustinPrather I would like to see this implemented as well. Seeing hub site pages is confusing to end users of our hub site. Our hub site is public facing (municipal govt open data portal). I agree with all the above comments.
