I have commented a bit about the issues I have been having with Pro, especially with 3.3 & 3.5.
The most often heard advice from people in Support is to make sure I have the latest drivers, updates, etc.
I have always been a bit conservative with regards to these things as I know from experience Latest != Best.
As I have been quite busy, I have been grasping at straws to fix some of the VERY annoying 3.5 issues and have updated as much as I can on the system. Windows, GPU, NIC, chipset are all done.
Guess what? The system now runs worse than before. Pretty sure it is one of the NIC or GPU drivers but I have maps to get out the door and because Pro 3.5 is a dog, things take longer so I have less time to troubleshoot.
This Idea is:
Esri must create and maintain a 'Known Working Best' list of fundamental Windows components that we can default to when things go pear-shaped with Pro. This is NOT a minimum spec list but a curated contemporary environment of stuff/versions that will work with the current versions of Pro at the time.
This should cover chipsets, GPU, and network drivers for the main vendors.
Wireless drivers? Not sure. That is a particularly nasty cesspool and I think only the very mainstream Intel cards should be covered initially. If you have a weird laptop with an off-brand wired NIC - I think you're on your own.
Will this be hard to do? Of course.
What is the alternative? Every time Pro falls in a tanty I'll get told to update everything.
Will that solve the problem? Maybe; or create other ones.
Is it good advice to 'just update everything' in 2025? No.
If, on multiple computers, multiple networks, Pro is the only common denominator that runs poorly, throwing everything else on the blanket to see what sticks is wasting the time of the people who pay for Esri to exist.
This is a decade old issue!!!!!
