ArcGIS Location Platform is Esri's Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) offering for developers who want to create location-based applications and solutions with a flexible business model. It includes various Maps SDKs, tools, and ArcGIS Location Services. The entry point is very low-threshold with a free ArcGIS Location Platform account and monthly free quotas for many ArcGIS Location Services.
In the second quarter of 2025, there were data updates and new features for ArcGIS Location Services, updates to some Mapping APIs, and administrative innovations or changes. Here are the key points:
- [New] Status Dashboard: Status display and history of ArcGIS Location Services and Sites.
- [Announcement] Legacy API Keys: To ensure smooth access to affected applications, the old API Keys (Legacy) must be replaced by the new API Keys before June 27, 2026.
- [New] Open Basemap Styles: These basemaps are based on open source data from the Overture Maps project and replace the deprecated OSM Basemap Styles.
- [Extension] ArcGIS Routing Services / Snap to Roads: More reliable representation of actually traveled routes by correcting GPS data and including, for example, length or speed limits in the calculation.
- [Update] ArcGIS Maps SDK for JavaScript 4.33: Many new features and useful extensions focusing on visualization, Web Components (Widgets evolution), editing, and analysis.
- [Update] ArcGIS Maps SDKs for Native Apps 200.7: Improved editing in Utility Networks, more possibilities with real-time data, image overlays in 2D maps, new components in the toolkit, and much more.
- [Update] ArcGIS Maps SDKs for Game Engines 2.0 (Unity, Unreal) Improvements in authentication (Oauth2), support for 3D Tiles and 3D Buildings Layer from the ArcGIS Living Atlas, more control over coordinate systems, and much more.
- [Update] ArcGIS API for Python 2.4.1: Some new functions such as creating offline backups with the new OfflineContentManager and support for Jupyter Notebook 7 and JupyterLab 4.
