Highlight Selected Format symbol - Symbology Editing

In the example above you can see that I have four elements making up my symbol, it would be nice to highlight the one you are currently editing so you do not have to continually reference the offset values or by trial and error. This would be super helpful when creating symbols that are made up of many elements and would greatly reduce the time it takes to put together some symbols. Thanks!

I see two big complications to address before this could be done:

1. How do you differentiate between "highlight the one you are currently editing" and between displaying the actual symbology, which is what it currently shows?  (A great example of what I'm getting at is the existing problem if you have a Polyline Feature Class symbolized as a line of pure cyan; it can hard to tell the difference between a selected and non-selected Feature then, because they look the same)

2. Nearly all of the symbols I end up creating for Point Feature Classes are coincident stacks of symbols.  There'd be no meaningful way to highlight that would make any difference, since they'd all appear highlighted.  This amplifies problem #1.

 

The better work-around for this, to me, would be to temporarily give each of your components a color other than black, do your positioning, and then switch them all back to black.

Another issue lies in where the "reference point" is for a given symbol, since they're stored as font characters.  ArcPro is a bit better about this than Desktop was, but there are still times that the reference point is the bottom center of the symbol, like a font character, which complicates positioning & rotating of what's intended to be a non-font symbol.
