I can change the menu item normally (no active selector) but when targeting the active selector in css nothing changes. I want to make the text for active menu-items to be a bit bolder and a different text color.

HiĀ @AudreyWatson, the functionality above is not currently supported, but is something Calcite will consider across all components. Opened an enhancement request for consideration in the future.
