I'm making a Story Map tour (explorer) with a number of different "themed" stories. Is there any way to have different color pins? I'm not a coder, so simpler solutions are better for me, if possible!
@SarahLevy1 - Sure, each tour (even tours in the same story) can use a different color.
Just go into the Map settings (in the top corner of the tour map) and you'll see the option to change the point color for that tour's points.
@SarahLevy1 - That option is not currently available, but we are considering it for a future enhancement.
Could you provide some detail about what you'd like to be able to do so we can understand how you would use the colors? Would you use this in a guided tour, explorer tour, or both? What aspect of the tour locations would you be differentiating with color? How many different colors would you use in a single tour?
@SarahLevy1 - I've moved this to the ideas board so others can vote for it and share their use cases.
Designing an interactive map to display Northern California Marine Protected Areas and would really like to have points on my map with colors corresponding to the different color codes of the MPA's. I'd love to see the ability to have multiple different colored points on my map!
Not sure if this should be a different idea or not -- but additionally to this idea, I would also really like to see custom icons for the Map Tours (same functionality that was just added to express maps) as well as being able to change the color of the numbers on the points for a guided tour. I'm currently working with a dark basemap and would like to use white icons, but the numbers on the stops are white by default and so you wouldn't be able to read them. Even just a toggle for white or black numbers, depending on which contrasts best.
Thanks for all the great updates you've been putting out!
Yes, I would like the same. I am doing some water quality maps and would like to differentiate between sample locations ( with different colors for results that are within acceptable range and above acceptable range) and potential source locations (also a different color). This would allow us to see where the hot spots potentially coincided with locations that could be contributing to issues.
We would like to do this as well to symbolize projects that are "In Progress" vs. "Complete".
I'm with@AaronKoelker. I would also like the option to change icons for the Map Tours.
Yes, I would like the option to set different colors on the pins for the Map Tour (Explorer option) in the new Story Map application. I developed a Story Map about the various apartment, commercial, etc. development going on around town (Development Plan Proposals (arcgis.com)). Our Planning Department would like to see the pins colored as the status of the project: new/proposed, council approved, under construction, finished, delayed, or similar. Each step in the the development's progress would have a corresponding color. The status could be a field in the feature service. Thank you.
Yes, I'd like also like ability to color code pins (similar to the classic Story Maps and Unique Values symbology in other ArcGIS products). I am recreating a classic Story Map tour where we had the tour points in different colors (based on different categories), and now I am not sure I can convince my "customer" to upgrade to the newer Story Maps if I can't color code the tour points. Thanks!
We are also interested in this option to differentiate/classify information behind a point. any news on if and when this option is going to be implemented?
Further to my comment back in May, adding a legend that is tied to the pin colors/attribute would be needed as well. I am hoping this happens! Thank you.
@OwenGeo I'm curious if there are any updates to adding this feature? Many of us would like to have different colored pins in the same map tour instead of different tours in the same story. Thanks!
I found this page as I was also seeking this feature for a map to distinguish between current/in development projects. Looks like there was potential for these changes. Will be following here for an update hopefully. Thanks! @OwenGeo
I'd like to see the different pin color feature added as well. I'm making a school project and am trying to compare the locations visited on two separate occasions.
I would also like to see different pin colors. Specifically I want a color pin for design projects and a different color pin for construction projects. @OwenGeo
has there been any updates regarding adding this feature where you can have multiple colored points in one story map tour? It is an option in the Classic ESRI Story maps, but I am trying to re-create a development progress map in the latest version of story maps.
It sounds like@NikishaM is working on a map similar to one we are working on. Any updates on this feature? Thanks!
We are currently working on designs for this feature, so it is in progress on our side, but we don't yet have an estimate for the date when it will be made available.
I'm adding to the voices here calling for an option that would enable different colored pins within the same tour. I'm using a tour format, and would like three colors for the different categories of "stops" on the tour: https://arcg.is/0zLWfX0. Hoping this update can be made!
Please let us know if this feature has been added. It will be most useful.
Reiterating that it would be great if this is available soon, it will be very useful! Thank you.
This feature is currently in development and we hope to make it available in Q1 of 2025.
I need to be able to distinguish between 3 types of points in my Map Tour, wanting some to be red, some blue & some green, based on what type of location. Did this ever get solved?
@NancyLRoss - This feature is currently in development and is still planned for release before the end of Q1 2025.
There is a new explorer tour layout called Categorized that enables you to specify the color and icon for each group of points.
For more information, see What's new in ArcGIS StoryMaps (February 2025)
I have a fully implemented Map Tour - Do I have to recreate it with the new Categorized or is there any way to color code an existing one? It's a monster StoryMap, but I suppose I can copy/paste, but I have to present it March 17th.
@NancyLRoss -- In the first beta release, the Categorized layout is only available for tours created from a feature service, but we are looking to add capability to manually create categories for tours created in the builder in a future release (unfortunately not before Mar 17 😞 ).
@OwenGeo - found this tread because I also want two separate colors in one storymap tour - I'm creating one to showcase all our public engagement events locations and overview details with links to the event summary pdfs for DDOT's Strategic Bikeways Plan and want to be able to visually differentiate events that have happened vs upcoming and once they've occurred - I need to differentiate visually our pop up events vs our public open houses. This all needs to be on the same map, not separate maps.
Please hurry up and implement this feature 🙂
