This year, the event platform had a whole new vibrant interface to welcome more than 50,000 registered attendees from around the world. Responsive motion graphics react to every scroll and motion stroke across the virtual platform, drawing users into interactive information elements and guided navigation to User Conference activities.

One of the interactive elements in the platform celebrates our global community with a 3D Map, where users can click around the world to see where fellow attendees are tuning in from.  John Nelson spent some time with Nick Frunzi to share how the map was made during UC Central Live.

Dr. Rae Wynn-Grant, a Wildlife Ecologist and Conservation Scientist, and Nick Frunzi, Esri’s Director of Customer Experience, returned as UC Central Live hosts to present special segments and live discussions with Esri staff and special guests about their thoughts and insights on topics buzzing around the User Conference and about real-world GIS applications.

After another awe-inspiring plenary, Brian Cross, Lauren Bennett, and Sud Menon of Esri discussed their highlights.

Back on the UC Central Live stage, the Mappy Hour panel with Nathan Shephard, Edie Punt, and Ken Field, discussed a few maps from the Virtual Map Gallery. Take a look at the gallery to explore maps up close and learn more about the stories behind them.

One of the maps highlighted during Mappy Hour was this thematic map that takes us back to San Diego with Esri Community member @BarbaraKent. Check out Barking Dogs Along Our Route to see where Barbara experienced a range of “Maybe 1 or 2 Woofs” to “Crazy Amounts of Barking & Lots of Running” with observational data collected from taking walks during the COVID-19 pandemic.
