Hi there

I recently downloaded two Sentinel-2 images from what I suspect will be the main repository for downloading of all the ESA Copernicus imagery (https://scihub.copernicus.eu/dhus/#/home ).

Then, using Pro 1.2 Beta, I created a blank Mosaic Datsest and selected "None" under product definition. Then when I tried adding rasters (my two Sentinel images - 6GB each), I used the Raster Type as Sentinel-2. The tool runs but no imagery is added.

The tool error message says:

"2016-02-28T06:31:15.996: Error: 80042019: Could not build mosaic dataset item. Have the ESA changed the image specifications from what Esri were anticipating when they added the new Sentinel raster type to Pro and 10.4 or is the fault mine?

The issue I believe is related to the length of the path. There are issues reading file name if the length of the path and file go beyond 256 characters. Unfortunately the names given to the sentinel scenes are extremely long. Please look to shorten the path by truncating part of the directory name that contains .SAFE at the end. All the details in the directory name are part of the metadata, so such a long directoy name is not required.

Hi there

I have just downloaded and installed ArcGIS for Desktop 10.4 and I am still unable to load the Sentinel 2 images into a Mosaic Dataset. I can confirm that the two images I downloaded are 6.75 GB and 6.27 GB  in size so I suspect they downloaded and unzipped successfully. I used WinRar to extract the zipped files.

Any advice welcome.

Kind regards,

Mervyn

never used them, but esri is specific about the format that is supported... so if there are optional formats, was the correct one chosen

worth a check in any event

Sentinel-2 MSI data is available as different product types and are systematically processed from Level-0 to Level-1C. Currently ArcGIS supports Level 1C products.

Hi Peter

Thank you so much, renaming the file names allowed the scenes to be imported. The names were so long that even Windows could not copy them from one directory to the next.

Cheers,

Peter, I have been looking at the mosaic dataset that I have now

successfully created from the Sentinel 2 imagery.

I was aware of the three spatial resolutions (10m, 20m, 60m) within the 13

Sentinel-2 bands and I was not sure how this would be handled in a Mosaic

Dataset. I see now that my Mosaic Dataset has a 60x60m resolution, thus

loosing the finer resolution of the bands with the finer resolution. Is

this correct or is there a workaround of some kind to try and utilise the

finer resolution? I tried extracting only the 10m bands using a Function

Chain but resolution still remained 60m.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

The setting of the property as 60m, is actually a know bug in the Sentinel Raster Type and Product. The property of the raster item default shows 60m as this is property of the last raster in the function chain. The actual data displayed is that of the source data. If you zoom in you will see that the pixels are 10, 20 or 60m depending on the band and you can mix the band combinations. Its great to be able to work with the multi-resolution bands without needing to create an intermediate product. Do set the appropriate sampling (bilinear) else you will see some strange (nearest neighbor artifacts).  Note the CellSize of a mosaic dataset is an editable value [ Mosaic Dataset Properties, General, Cell Size (x,y) ]. You can change this to 10m. Also note that if you are only using the 10m bands it is better to use the appropriate product. Currently there is another known issue with the 10.4 implementation of the Sentinel Raster type, in that all bands are read from the source even if you only access 3 of the bands. This should be fixed soon.

Hi Peter

The feedback is very useful. I will give it a try.

Cheers
