Hold the press, folks! We may officially be in a new year, BUT we haven’t quite finished wrapping things up with respect to everything that went on in 2024. That includes taking stock of all of our members’ activity and contributions to determine the winners of our annual Esri Community Contest.

Join us in congratulating the nine individuals we’ve highlighted here, who, through their extraordinary level of involvement, stood out from among hundreds of thousands of their peers here in this platform. Winners’ circles are broken down into three distinct categories that capture key stages of the member’s journey. See Announcing the 2024 Esri Community Contest for rules and additional details.

Elite Level

This level encompasses our true community superstars, otherwise known as our Esri Community MVPs. Though a fraction of all Esri Community membership (just 0.02%), MVPs collectively provided 22% of all confirmed answers to posted questions in 2024.

@jcarlson (145 Solutions) - Josh has made himself a regular fixture on the Elite Level leaderboard in recent years, having appeared on the scene to earn the very top spot in 2021 and remaining at or close to that position ever since. Josh has become well known in Esri Community for a readiness to share his expansive expertise with others that includes providing detailed code, asking well thought out questions, and even offering out-of-the-box, creative suggestions others can try when solutions prove to be particularly elusive.

@abureaux (144 Solutions) - Alex joined the ranks of our Esri Community MVPs at the beginning of 2024 after having won a spot in the Rising Star category of the 2023 Esri Community Contest. His involvement in this platform and commitment to helping the collective group of Esri users has only grown since, whether that be through providing answers to others’ questions, spreading encouragement, or contributing suggestions in the ArcGIS Survey123 Ideas Exchange.

@ChristopherCounsell (135 Solutions) - Another winner of the Rising Star award in our 2023 Contest and a subsequent MVP Program inductee, Chris’s footprints can be found all over Esri Community—from ArcGIS Online and ArcGIS Pro boards, to Data Management, ArcGIS Survey 123, ArcGIS Experience Builder, and more. Where Chris goes, you’ll find his insightful, balanced, and thorough responses elevating conversations while helping numerous others advance their GIS initiatives.

Rising Star

At this level, we recognize our up-and-coming members who have gone above and beyond this year. Their numerous replies to others account for the bulk of the contribution evaluated for this contest; the quality of which is often framed by their Accepted Solutions and kudos received from others.

@Bud - This isn’t @Bud’s first time making it to the top of our Rising Star circle, having carved out a spot for himself among our 2022 Contest winners.  We’re glad to see him back! Visitors to @Bud’s profile will be suitably floored by the over 3,200 lifetime posts in Esri Community attributed to him. Whether sharing new feature requests, picking members’ brains for useful knowledge, or offering his own helpful suggestions back to others, @Bud demonstrates what it means to be an active member of Esri  Community. It may come as no big surprise, then, that he received 727 kudos from others during 2024—more than any other of this year’s contest winners.

@CodyPatterson - Cody doubled down on his debut as a Newcomer of the Year winner during our 2023 Contest by earning this spot in this next highest category. Throughout 2024, he maintained a high pace of activity that included dozens of his own posts and hundreds of replies to others, including many that helped address the needs of his peers. Follow him around a bit and you’ll find Cody readily involved in a variety of topics that include Python, ArcGIS Monitor, ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS AllSource, ArcGIS Survey123, and more.

@Eugene_Adkins - Eugene’s very first Esri Community post came at the tail end of 2023 and kicked off a presence that’s proven to be quite involved; particularly in the ArcGIS Pro space, but branching out to others like ArcGIS Enterprise and ArcGIS Field Maps as well. Eugene regularly demonstrates that he’s  not just here for his own needs, either. In 2024, members of Esri Community marked Eugene’s responses as Accepted Solutions to their own questions more than two dozen times.

Newcomer of the Year

These members joined Esri Community in 2024 and jumped right into collaborating and engaging with others in standout ways, including a prolific degree of posting across Boards. Welcome!

@TimoT - Timo’s first post in Esri Community took place back in February and challenged the more common behavior we see from newer members, which is usually to ask a question. Instead, Timo started their member journey by taking the time to offer advice on someone else’s ArcGIS Enterprise Portal question. In that same early month, they added an ArcGIS Monitor Idea that’s been adopted into the product plan. Between that and the regular exchanges of good questions and helpful advice coming out of Timo’s account, this spot among the list of our newest member winners is much deserved!

@SumitMishra_016 - Despite being relatively fresh on the scene, nearly 1 in 4 of Sumit’s posts are Accepted Solutions to members’ questions, revealing habits of generosity we often find among Esri Community’s most active and impactful accounts. When we’d announced Sumit as a strong contender on the mid-year contest update leaderboards, they had this to say: “It’s been a fantastic experience contributing to this community, and I’ve learned so much from everyone here. Thank you to everyone who’s helped me along the way—I’m looking forward to continuing to engage and learn with this incredible group.”

@Angiex__1 - It’s only a matter of time before @Angiex__1 earns the moniker or “regular” among their peers in the ArcGIS Utility Networks space in Esri Community. In the short time they’ve been a member, all but one of their 59 posts can be found in that question board. Asking thoughtful questions that incite new conversations and knowledge sharing is an important part of how Esri Community grows and we look forward to seeing more from this account!

. . . . .

Thank you to everyone who took part in the conversations, the idea sharing, and the collaboration that happened here in Esri Community during 2024. Though we make a point of naming those individuals whose activity reached a uniquely high degree of prominence within their respective stages of membership, everyone who joined in—whether in small ways or big—played a role in making this platform a go-to resource for Esri users.
