When using the ‘JTXDesktopSteps.LaunchArcMap‘ step type in ArcGIS Pro the only way to save any edits done to the opened layout (pagx) is to close the layout, this then finalizes the step and save a copy of the layout to file. No problem.

However, it is not uncommon for a layout (map) to be worked on over extended periods of time.

Having the ability to save without finalizing the step would reduce the risk in losing edits due to system crashes, human errors or other issues.

Two ideas come to my mind to reduce the risk in loosing edits, one is two have an auto save function for the layout being opened, and the other is to have the ability to save the opened layout with the hosting project.

Hi @JHart

I would recommend switching from the Launch Arcmap/Import Map step to the Open Map step, then you are opening maps/layouts/tasks in the project rather than importing them from outside.

When you import there is technically nothing in the project.

Cheers,
Michael
