Reducing arrows on specific layer and legend patch symbology

I am having an issue between the legend patch and the layer symbology for my map. Whenever I add additional arrows along my path, the symbology for this layer reflects this and adds a bunch of more arrows. This affects the patch for my legend too and creates an unattractive symbology for this path. Is there anyway besides manually changing to legend into a graphic and editing it there?

I highlighted the areas which are causing me trouble, as you can see in the bottom right this is where I add additional arrows to the path. As you can see on the left panel and legend table that the symbology of the path incorporates all these new arrows. Is there a way to prevent this from showing in the legend?
