ArcGIS Pro Parcel Densified Curve Clean Up
One of the parcel fabric clean-up operations our organization uses frequently is around curves. We often find a series of densified line segments that need to a) be converted to true curves and b) merged into one true curve representing the full arc (not a series of small true curves).
In ArcMap, we built a custom tool to do this. The tool allows our editors to trace along the extent of the curve we want, specify a radius value, and once we click 'ok', all the densified line segments are converted to true curves. The trace will pick-up lines for all the overlapping parcels (property, encumbrance, survey, etc.). The screenshot below demonstrates current functionality:
We are currently working through how to complete this clean-up work in ArcGIS Pro. Given how often we complete this workflow (a hundred times a day per editor), it is important to us that the workflow have as few button clicks as possible.
In ArcGIS Pro, we have identified a workflow where we:
- Select the densified lines (and either select the parcel or shrink it to seed)
- Merge the densified lines into 1 segment (use the 'merge to existing feature' option - this step needs to be done per parcel feature)
- Run SLACA on the newly merged lines (this can be done on all features that are being updated)
- Run Update COGO on the lines that have been converted to arcs (this can be done on all features that are being updated)
- Build extent (if the parcels had been shrunk to seeds)
While this workflow achieves the desired result, it is a lot more steps than we currently have with our custom tool in ArcMap.
In the video below, Frank uses a workflow that is very similar to what we would like (he uses the align features tool to trace along the desired curve; however, the densified lines are not merged into one long arc along the parcel boundary and the manual process to delete the short curved segments and build a new line is still required.

Our desired tool would allow us to trace the extent of the curve and specify a radius value. Then the tool would merge the short segments for each feature, create one true curve for each feature, and update the COGO dimensions of the line with the specified radius value. Having a tool like this available would significantly reduce the effort currently required to clean-up densified curves in ArcGIS Pro.”
