Hi,

I have a dataset I will soon be allowing users to download as needed via a site built in Experience Builder, I'd like to add a 'readme.doc' file to it setting out the data agreement and some added contextual information about the way the data was collected.

What s the best way to go about doing this?

Hi Sarah, Try to create a readme.txt and then place it in the same directory as your dataset files.

If distributing the dataset as a compressed file (e.g., .zip), ensure the readme file is included within the archive.

When uploading your dataset to platforms like ArcGIS Online or other data repositories, include the readme.txt in the upload package. Clearly mention the presence of the readme.txt in the item details description to inform users of its availability.

To open the readme file from ArcGIS Pro the best way is to:

  • Right-click on the readme.txt file in the Catalog pane.
  • Select Show in File Explorer.
  • From there, double-click the readme.txt file to open it with your system’s default text editor.

Hope this helps

Thanks Omar, I realised my post was ambiguous, this is about ensuring that when the data is extracted from AGOL by the user the readme.txt is included in that download.
