While working with ArcGIS maps in Unreal Engine, an issue with scaling in Local Mode (flat map display) was identified. It is well-known that the unit system in Unreal Engine is defined as 1 unit = 1 cm.
I conducted measurements of the Brooklyn Bridge as it appears on the flat map (Local Mode) and compared these with the real-world dimensions obtained from Google Maps in a browser. The results are as follows:
- The length of the bridge in Unreal Engine is 1.32 times larger than its actual length and the length measured in Google Maps.
- When the ArcGIS map is switched to Global Mode (spherical display), the dimensions are correct and match the real-world data.
Measuring by google:
Measuring inside unreal engine. Map type (local)
Measuring inside unreal engine. Map type (global). Size similar with google.
Question
What are the possible solutions to address the issue of incorrect map dimensions in Local Mode?
