Much like the newer added support for adding Shp, CSV, GPX, etc. to ArcGIS online web maps, I strongly believe geo-referenced imagery needs to be supported as a new "Add Layer from File" supported format.  Even if this was geo-jpg support only, this would be great.  Other formats could be jpeg 2000 and GeoTiffs and if there is a file size limit that would be fine too.  The uses of this would be huge for the smartphone applications in the field.

It would also be nice to see support of georeferencing in ArcGIS Online (viewers). So you can add an unreferenced image and use simple tools to position it on the map. No advanced functionality, but compared to functionality in Google Earth where it is supported to add an image to the viewer and put it on the correct location.

I've noticed some other Cloud/Web based web mapping offerings have started to offer this ability.  This would be a great addition even if this was only part of the paid subscription of ArcGIS online.

We do have schools who stated using ArcGIS Online, and would like to add additional data from existing paper maps. Ability to georeference images in ArcGIS Online would be big benefit for them when doing research projects, or creating contect for education.

Feature to simply directly uploadgeoreferenced images would be great.
