Did ESRI Change the Way They Point to Categories?

In response to “Categories & Group IDs persisting in the Search URL" associated with the new Search Experience for Hub, we noticed some additional issues when navigating our Hub site. According to the Hub Changelog, ESRI implemented a resolution, “Query parameters are no longer persisted after leaving the /search route,” but we are still experiencing some issues.

Upon further evaluation of the new Hub Search Experience, we are still seeing issues that we think are related to ESRI changed the way they point to categories ( via the URL). For example: It appears navigating back to the Cadastral Category on the BLM GBP Hub Home Page is now a combination of the previous Group Query and the Cadastral Category Query. 

 We have used the out-of-the-box configuration to set-up our Category Cards to use “Category Query” on our main Hub page.

And on our State pages we “Use Group” on the Category Card.

Example of the behavior we are experiencing:
 

From our main GBP Hub Page: https://gbp-blm-egis.hub.arcgis.com/

If I click on the Cadastral Survey Category Card…

I see 83 search results from various levels of the organization (CO, NM, etc.).

From there if I navigate to a State Page like Alaska:

Then click on the Alaska Data Search (Category Card) (on the Alaska State Page):

I see 17 search results from Alaska: https://gbp-blm-egis.hub.arcgis.com/search?categories=%252Fcategories%252Fcadastral&groupIds=a068034...

BUT then if I go back to the main GBP Hub Page again: https://gbp-blm-egis.hub.arcgis.com/

 And click the Cadastral Survey Category Card…

The result is 2 search results from Alaska, instead of the 83 search results I would expect to see on the main Hub Page (which should be everything under that category for all states – 83 items!)

It appears navigating back to the Cadastral Category on the Home Page is now a combination of the previous Group Query and the Cadastral Category Query. That's why we are only seeing 2 records when we would expect to see 83 records, because it should just be showing the Category Query (not the Category and Group Query).

 What do you suggest? What changed in how ESRI is configuring Groups and Categories that are now persisting in the record search results? Currently what our users are seeing in the record search results is NOT a reflection of the out-of-the-box Category Card query configuration.

 We did notice the change in the search URL structure, and we aren't sure if this is related to the issue described above.
