Is there a way to hide Hub Projects from a Hub?

Is anyone aware of a way to hide the dropdown 'new' 'project' from a Hub?

The issue is that Hub Projects does not fufill the needs of how we set out our own 'projects' in our Hosted Feature layer, otherwise we would have adopted it. We did actually discuss this with the developers before the product was launched because we were hoping that it might replace our workflow.

Now users are getting confused with our process of adding projects through the button in the screenshot (add an NFM Project) and the 'Hub Projects' functionality which is more obvious and there doesn't seem to be a way to remove it from the site.
