ArcGIS Business Analyst Web App (Web App) allows market analysts and project leads to use data, mapping, analysis to gain market and community intelligence. Additionally, users of this Web App can share their analyses and gain alignment easily through visually engaging, interactive infographics that can be shared as stories and dashboards.

In the upcoming December 2021 Online release, we are responding to user requests by focusing on data updates, a new analysis workflow, and improvements to sharing analysis results:

  • U.S. Census 2020 redistricting data
  • 2021 Canadian demographic data
  • Threshold areas (Advanced license)
  • Improved workflow to ArcGIS StoryMaps (Advanced license)
  • Ability to share more sites to ArcGIS Dashboards (Advanced license)
  • Updated business points and traffic data for the U.S. and business points for Canada.

U.S. Census 2020 decennial redistricting data.

The U.S. Census released the first of a multi-phase release of the 2020 decennial data, known as the redistricting data (also known as Public Law – 94). This redistricting data is used by states to redraw redistricting boundaries and includes total population, population by age 18 and over and race, population by race and non-Hispanic origin, housing, households, and group quarters. The upcoming December 2021 release will include this data plus a supplemental dataset created by the Esri demographics team—all optimized for use in the Web App.

2021 Canadian demographic data

The updated 2021 Canadian demographic data will include additional infographics templates:

  • Demographic Profile
  • Demographics and Spending
  • Economic Development
  • Nearby Restaurants
  • Population and Household Trends
  • Population and Key Indicators
  • Poverty Indicators
  • PRIZM Key Facts
  • Target Market Summary
  • Visible Minority

Threshold areas workflow (Advanced license)

The Advanced version of the Web App license will start to accommodate powerful analysis tools from its desktop application. The first of these tools is the upcoming threshold areas workflow, which will allow users to create areas that expand around a location until specific criteria are reached (e.g. 25,000 people). This is useful when you are studying new markets and want to see the drive time of an area that represents the total customers (or members) needed for a store (or center).

Integration to the new ArcGIS StoryMaps (Advanced license)

In support of the new functionalities and updated look of story templates, creating new stories with sites and infographics will default to the latest ArcGIS StoryMaps templates starting with the upcoming December 2021 release. Per the deprecation announcement published by the ArcGIS StoryMaps team, “In the December 2021 release of ArcGIS Online, the classic templates will be removed from the ArcGIS Online Configurable Apps Gallery. You will still be able to create stories from a classic template’s item page, but using templates in extended support is not recommended for long-term projects.”

Share more sites to ArcGIS Dashboards (Advanced license)

Back in September, we provided a three-click workflow that allows users to select up to 10 sites to create a dashboard. Within a minute or so, users could create a dashboard with a map and infographics that could be further edited and published in ArcGIS Dashboards. In the upcoming release, we will be increasing the maximum sites to 500 sites.

Data Updates

Key data updates include business points (Data Axle) and traffic data (Kalibrate) for the U.S. and business points (Data Axle) for Canada.
