Creating new field using Python

Hi,

I have merged 3 polygons (3 different land use types) into one polygon layer, and so have 3 FID.landusetype fields in the attribute table.  So for each row there will be a -1 in two of the FID.landusetypes (if that polygon doesn't belong to that type), and a +ve value for the landusetype to which it belongs.  I want to create a single field for management type, maybe using the field calculator?

I don't know anything about python, but I think for the new mgmt field I would need a conditional statement that says something like "if FID.landusetype1 > -1, call it park, and if FID.landusetype2 > -1, call it forest" etc.

I'm sure the code is easy, but I'm banging my head against the wall.
