Heat Map

HI All,

  I wanted some basic information on heat map ?    Though i have read lot of blogs , I am unable to grasp the concept , so far what is know the basic concepts of heat map is hot spot analysis like if we want to density of some attributes ( crime analysis, disease anlaysis) we use heat map , but how do i create it using Shape file ? using API? are there any API?

You can use it to create a heatmap of a feature layer that you published with ArcGIS Server like this one: http://servicesbeta.esri.com/arcgis/rest/services/SanFrancisco/SFStreetTreesRendered/MapServer/0

I haven't really used it but I think you can also load your data as javascript objects?
And yes, heatmap is actually a density map -> density is mapped to colors.
