I used to do this in arc 9.xx but I a) can't remember how I did it and b) am now using arc 10.2.  I have a windows 7 computer.  I created a square polygon using the drawing tool and then converting it from graphics to features.

I now want to edit the polygon to add points all along the perimeter of the polygon.  I need to do this because I want to get xy coordinates for the perimeter of the polygon that we can then use out in the field to flag around the perimeter of the polygon we are working within.  I tried creating a template but I have to keep it as a polygon which then does not allow me to add points (that tool in the editor toolbar stays shaded).

Does anyone know what step(s) I am missing?  Or a different way to get points around a polygon?
