Why can't Outlook 2010 consume RSS output?

I am setting up GeoEvent Processor for a customer and experimenting with various output/alerting mechanisms.  One thing they are interested in is having the output RSS feed be consumed in Outlook 2010 so users know when a GeoFence criteria has been met (as opposed to sending emails, etc.).

However, when I try to add the RSS endpoint to Outlook, I always get an error.  e.g. https://myserver.abc.xyz:6143/geoevent/rest/cache/myrssoutput?f=rss.  Is there anyway we can get this to better integrate with Outlook?  Is the self-signed certificate possibly causing problems?

Thanks for any insight.

Bill,
I'd like to suggest to try connect using http://myserver.abc.xyz:6180/geoevent/rest/cache/myrssoutput?f=rss first to avoid the certificate issue. If this worked then try the https connection. I tested both and they are working on my own instance of GEP.

Cheers,
