Troubles with Intersect overlay area

Discussion created by jac_1007 on Feb 13, 2014
Hi everyone,

I'm new with ArcGIS10.0 and having problems with spatial analysis using Intersect.

I have 2 polygons A and B, while B is completely within A. When calculating the overlap area using Intersect (which should be the same as the shape area of B) I always get a value which is 2.29-times bigger than B. Why is that?

I checked the projections of the data sets of both polygons (WGS 1984) and tried to project them in WGS 1984 Web Mercator Auxiliary as it is impossible to calculate areas in geographical projections.

Thank you in advance!
