Select by Near - Delete by Date

Discussion created by alastair on Jan 21, 2014
Hello All,

I have some survey data for points that has had the "same" point picked up on different dates. The differences in the locations for the same point vary and there may be more than two points for the same feature.

What I would like to do is use the near command to identify the points that are duplicates and then delete those that are within a set distance based on the date the point was picked up, keeping the newest point.

I would like to do this in Python but I'm a bit lost what to do after running the near command as I have noticed that the distances calculated by the near tool can be the same on different localities of points.

I have looked at the Delete Identical tool which gives the ability to use a search distance but doesn't give control over which record it deletes.

Your assistance would be appreciated.
