Ordering stops along a route

This should be simple, right? According to the documentation, it appears that when I load my stops into a Route Solution instance I simply select a field containing my route names (e.g., elementary schools and middle schools) and then specify a numeric sort field if I want to visit my destinations in a specific order.

I've tried repeatedly to specify a sort order for my various routes which have 3 - 4 destinations, but ArcMap refuses to recognize my ordering in the sort field and determines its own sequence. Any help would be much appreciated.

Hmm, very strange, but please check the connectivity of your network. may be your sequence has conflicts because of one-ways or either the segments are not split as you think they are. really strange behavior, also sort field cannot be OID/ FID and has to be an integer field as far as I remember.

Open up your Route layer properties, go to the Analysis Settings tab, and make sure "Reorder Stops To Find Optimal Route" is unchecked.
