Hi, I am trying to simplify a zoning map of Los Angeles. It is a parcel map with a field of zoning codes (Zoning_Code), of which there are nearly 60 types, such as 15 types of residential, 10 of commercial, etc. I want to create a new field for simplified zoning categories (Zoning_Category) of All Residential, All Commercial, etc.

The zoning codes are three-digit codes: 101, 102, etc. for residential; 201, 202, etc. for commercial. I believe I need to create a new field and use the field calculator to query the zoning code field and fill the zoning category field ... "If Zoning_Code = 101-199, then Zoning_Category = "Residential"; if Zoning_Code = 201-299, then Zoning_Category = "Commercial" ...

But I don't speak Python or VB. Can anyone help?

Thank you!
