With the recent update to AGOL last week the option to add data for non logged in users went away. Whats up with this? Our agency is relying on this platform to push data and self service mapping out to the public and anonymous users. This feature is critical. We have created a host of training material on this action. Add it back please.

We will be adding the Modify Map option to organizations in an update scheduled for this week. So by Friday, Dec 20, 2013, it should be there. However, there will be no save button. In order to save edits, you need to sign in first.

Thanks,

Mike

I have followed the post but still am not getting the modify map button to show up in any my Orgs maps w/o being logged in. See this map http://bit.ly/1dkTKrr.

Just found this in their release documentation

For organizations that allow anonymous access, a simplified map viewer opens but there is no option to modify the map (users must sign in to see all the tools).

This is a huge change. If this is a self service mapping tool why not let anonymous users add data.

OK This must be a browser issue. I am using Chrome and I have noticed that you have to minimize then maximize the browser for all AGOL options to work. What browser are you using?

Thanks for you help.

It looks like the issue is if the map is navigated to thru the bit.ly url the modify map button appears. If it is launched from our Org home screen the button is not available. Try launching the Functional Class map item from our Org Home screen here(first item in content bar):
uplan.maps.arcgis.com vs here http://bit.ly/1dkTKrr

We simplified the user interface and removed map authoring tools for anonymous users to allow them to more easily browse a map without being overwhelmed by all the authoring tools. We have received numerous comments that our interface is too complex for people who just want to look at a map. Our assumption is that people who want to modify a map will want to save their map, thus they will need to sign in to do so.

We did provide anonymous users the option to modify the map without signing in from ArcGIS.com website, but not an organization's website. The reason we did it this way is because there is no ability for an anonymous user to sign in to an org website and save their map. People would often get confused, thinking their public account would allow them to sign in to an organization's website. Thus, we disabled the ability to modify the map so anonymous viewers wouldn't be able to make changes that they couldn't save. One important point to remember here is that www.arcgis.com is a completely separate website from any organization's website, even though organization's items shared publicly appear on arcgis.com as well.

Hope this helps explain why things are working as they are now...

Yes,

you get the Modify button if you share your map through:

http://www.arcgis.com/home/webmap/viewer.html?webmap=494d57208ea4464bb664ac2da38f9c91&extent=-117.6451,34.4412,-102.8897,43.4687

and you don't get it when you share it through:
