ArcGIS Server 10.2 copies rasters even though I registered the folder

I have a FGDB on a local drive of my ArcGIS server.  The folder containing this FGDB is registered.

The FGDB contains a plain table with the following columns: OBJECTID, IMAGE, XMIN, YMIN, XMAX, YMAX.  The IMAGE column contains the network path to individual rasters.  The network path to the rasters is also registered.

When I publish a map service and click Analyze, there are no warnings about data copying.

Once I publish the map service, a subfolder called "images" appears inside the FGDB folder and the IMAGE column gets changed to this newly created location.  The ArcGIS server also copies all the raster tiff files into this newly created images folder.

Is there any way I can convince ArcGIS server not to do this without turning off automatic data copying?
