How to create a shapefile which divides table data into grid squares 2km x 2km

Hi,
I have a data set and i am trying to create a 2km by 2km grid. I know how to import it as an xy point but i need this to form grid squares

You can create a Fishnet. See Help topic Create Fishnet (Data Management)

Thanks for the help, I want to automatically define the cell heght and width as well as number of colomn and rows. but i keep getting an error message when the tool executes.
