Gauge Widget Data Source

I cant make the gauge datasource work with anything other than the selected item of a select widget.  I'd like it to work on a layer in my map that has only one feature and display all the time without user action.  Is this possible?

If you have a layer with only a single feature in it, set that to be the data source for the gauge, and the gauge will always reflect that data.
