texture mapping - multiple textures in one image

I would like to minimise the total number of image files that are referenced into my scene; therefore, I would like to have many textures saved into one image and then only use part of the image on a given shape (a bit like baked textures, or image mapping in HTML).

i.e. my image file (128x128) would have 4 textures in a two-by-two grid

building_1 uses the top-left 64x64 part of the image
building_2 uses the top-right 64x64 part of the image

is this possible?
