I place linked events on the map. The link between two events is depicted as a red line between the two (or more) locations which is displayed by button click from the map info window. Often the other end of the line is off the visible extent (unless the map is zoomed to the entire world - because of application real estate and LOD limits sometimes it's not possible to make the map large enough to show the entire world). My (current) plan was to add the linked events and the connecting line(s) to the overview map's graphics layer (if possible) so the user has an easier way to pan the map. Changing the map extent to that of the graphics would be the next solution - I just thought this solution would work better.
