I noticed a huge list of fixes in the 10.2 release here:

http://downloads.esri.com/support/downloads/other_/102-IssuesAddressedList.pdf

Obviously these same fixes are going to be include in the next service pack for 10.1 right?

Right?

i'm surprised that i didn't catch the 10.1 sp2 release announcement. I'm on the RSS feeds and watch the blogs quite diligently.

ESRI wouldn't force people to go to 10.2 just to get fixes for a product they already have installed (10.1 sp1) right?

Because many organizations view that '.X' update to be a 'major' release and upgrading to that requires more time and duty than a simple service pack to a product that is already installed.

Kevin,

This has already been discussed in some length in this thread

ArcGIS 10.2

and particularily, see this response of an ESRI employee in that thread:

http://forums.arcgis.com/threads/79232-ArcGIS-10.2?p=287668&viewfull=1#post287668

So yes, there is most likely not going to be a 10.1 SP2, and you'll probably be forced to do a full upgrade to 10.2 if you want to take advantage of bug fixes, with the added bonus of some nice new functionality.

Anyway, even if there would have been a 10.1 SP2, from a technical point of view, with so many fixes as announced now, it is likely that a plethora of components would have to be replaced during installation of the Service Pack, so as to make the distinction between a simple Service Pack upgrade and a full re-install insignificant...
