AGSFeatureLayer can't display labels nor annotation feature classes

I want to test the iOS device's ability to render text.
So I'm using an AGSFeatureLayer, but I can't seem to show any text from it.  I unsuccessfully tried an Annotation Feature Class, and a Feature Class with Labels.  Any suggestions?  To avoid any confusion, I already know we can show text with a connected dynamic map service.  I'm not interested in that as we are investigating our offline options.

We are working on adding support for labeling in future releases.
Unfortunately, labeling on feature layers is not supported on any of the released SDKs.
We do not plan to support Annotation Feature classes in feature layers for the near term.
