Caching services directly to S3?

Has anyone had luck creating caches on S3? Esri documentation mentions this as an option, but I'm curious to know if anyone has actually gone this route.

You may have already seen this documentation, but if not it may be helpful:
The tiles themselves aren't actually created in S3 using this approach, but the cache for the service is hosted there.
