I am trying to run Solar analysis in ArcGIS and it is an enormous DEM of a very mountainous region. I'm obviously going to have to split the DEM, but I was wondering if there are any issues with doing this? e.g. if you analyze a section separately from an adjacent mountain that would have shaded this section.
I am also curious if there are any open source solutions?
