Hi,

Does anyone know if CityEngine is compatible with Blender?  It's open source and uses Python so I???m just wondering if there is any compatibility like file formats or usability between the two for creating buildings etc.  Learning Blender for fun and just wondered if it was possible to connect work with fun! 😄

Hi !

CityEngine is a procedural modeling application. Thus, the result of the work with CityEngine is a 3d model, which you export.

For this export, we have different file formats, depending on the CE version.

CE Basic        : obj, 3ds, (vob)
CE Advanced  : fbx, dae

One of those you can use to import the stuff in Blender.

Ok ?

Matt

Hi Matt,

Thanks for answering!  That will work, Blender imports obj and 3ds, and it exports obj, 3ds, fbx and dae, so I think it should be fun seeing what it and CityEngine come up with.  Just starting out with both here.
