Open Old .mxd files on ArcGIS Oline

I have a couple old .mxd files and not sure how old it is. I go to "add a new layer from file" on a map and it says that I can not open a zipped file or gps file. This file is neither of these files, it is .mxd. How can I open this file on ArcGIS Online?

Hi there,

The ArcGIS.com map viewer does not support working with .mxd files. They are used with ArcGIS for Desktop, specifically ArcMap only.
