Red Squirrel habitat suitability. Types of Maps to use?

I am in the process of writing a GIS project based on Red Squirrel Habitat suitability in England's "Wild Ennerdale Valley" - An area they are currently trying to bring back to a wild state.

I am just struggling to figure out what direction to take this project in , in regards to producing GIS maps.
What kind of maps should I be looking to create to project habitat suitability properly?
Patch Analyst?
or would it be suitable to just do individual layers based on habitat attributes such as structure, type and spatial arrangements and just put that together to represent where suitable habitat would be?

Any tips would be greatly appreciated!
