Viewing a layer joined to a table on a database is not possible w/o database client

While trying to deploy a Runtime software I've built, which includes a layer of parcels, sitting on an ArcGIS Server, joined to a table on an MSSQL database (which sits on the same server as my geodatabase), I got an error saying that I need to install an MS SQL client on my computer to run the application.

This is in spite the fact that I checked the "Additional Data Formats > SDE >  SQL Server" in my Runtime deployment builder.

Once I've installed the MS SQL client, it all worked with no problems.

While in the case of MS SQL this is trivial due to the size of the client (only 7 mb), our software also supports Oracle database, which means our clients will have to install an Oracle client, which takes up a lot of memory.

Any suggestions as to why this is happening and how can I solve this?
