Spatial Analysis - Applying Buffers

Hi,

I am trying to perform a spatial analysis for a small assignment to find a suitable location/site that satisfies the conditions -

1. Within 20 miles of a community with a population over a given number
2) More than 1 mile outside/away from the boundary of any community and 10 miles away from the state border
3) Within 3 miles of a Primary Road
4) Within 4 miles of an airport classified as public
5) within 15 miles of as many lakes as possible.

I have imported all the layers and performed select by query to satisfy the population and airport criteria, which I added as a new layer. Later, I used the buffer tool to find features with in the proximity of 20 miles (Condition 1). Further, I used the select by location feature to find data that satisfies either of the 3, 4, 5 conditions. I am a basic gis leaner and I am confused if the methods I am using for spatial analysis is correct. Please can anyone suggest me the right way to perform the geoprocessing that satisfies these conditions.

Thanks in advance.
