Limitation on number of features

Hi,

Recently I am using ArcGIS Online free trial. I want to add a shape file with more than 1000 features, and I cannot import that data for limitation.
I wonder if having subscription will solve this problem. Are there any limitations on the size of the file or number of features even with subscription?

Thank you,
Ekin

Hi,

Since this thread is on the limitation of ArcGIS Online Free Trial, is there anyone who can simply list out the features which are not available in the trial version and are there in the Organization Subscription? Especially the filter feature which according to all help documents should be in the drop down list in contents. I can't see it in my trial version.

Thanks in advance!

A couple of things that come to mind:

- You can host feature services. If you have ArcGIS Desktop, you can upload feature services that have more than 1000 features. Once uploaded you can make edits in ArcGIS Online and if you want to you can download it again as a shapefile. You can't download data with the free account.

- You can upload tiled services. Before you upload it, via ArcGIS Desktop, you can label features. This also will draw the features quicker since it will be cached. But beware all this will use credits, but it is not available with the free account.

- You can use the desktop operational dashboard http://www.esri.com/software/arcgis/arcgisonline/apps/operations-dashboard
This is great in conjunction with hosted feature services, since this dashboard will update in real time whenever edits are made in ArcGIS Online. Not in ArcGIS Online free account.

- Recently ESRI has released tools in ArcGIS Online that let you analyze features (i.e. buffer tool) and you can export the results. ESRI keeps adding things to that. Again it consumes credits and is not available in the ArcGIS Online free account.

- You can use maps in Microsoft Office products. http://www.esri.com/software/arcgis/arcgisonline/apps/esri-maps-for-office
Again this is not available with the free account.

- You can download APP's for your smart devices and do editing to feature services on the GO! http://www.esri.com/software/arcgis/arcgisonline/apps/collector This in conjucntion with the desktop dashboard's realtime updates is great. Again not available with the free account.

- You can setup your own ArcGIS Online webpage where you can host map galleries.

I'm sure i missed a bunch more but that is why I personally like it.
For more information look at the Tabs here http://www.esri.com/software/arcgis/arcgisonline

If this helps please rate it or mark it as answered thanks!

@Rashi

This help document describes why you may not be seeing the filtering option.

http://resources.arcgis.com/en/help/arcgisonline/index.html#//010q000000tv000000

Specifically, only service layers support filtering. Is your layer one of these?

You can create filters on hosted feature service layers, ArcGIS Server feature service layers, and ArcGIS Server map service layers that have associated attribute data.

Thanks,

Mike

Hi Tim,

Thanks for the information. Sums it up well for me. I like ArcGIS online this is exactly what I was looking for! Will go ahead and subscribe soon 🙂

Hi Mike,

You're right, that's exactly the point I was missing! I missed the whole meaning and significance of hosted feature services though had read it in the help. I was logged in as a user all the while and hence didn't come across the option of publishing my shapefiles as hosted feature services. This solves my problem. Thanks! 🙂
