I am trying to turn an excel table into a feature class.I am using the make xy event layer management.
This is sort of what I am doing:
arcpy.MakeXYEventLayer_management(input,x_coordinate,y_coordinate,output,spatialReference)

So far in my code i have stated every variables required for this to work ie.:
x_coordinate = "x coordinate" y_coordinate = "y coordinate"

what I am trying to do is create a script that will do this. However, what I am wondering is, if there is a way to extract the field values of the excel file and  let the user select what they would want to put in as an x coordinate and as a y coordinate? .

Sort of the same idea as when you do it manually, that it gives you a drop down menu of the fields to select from.

any ideas?
