In need of assistance in layout view

I am representing parcel ownership over a rather large area so I needed to create about five maps to represent the entire area. For each map I would get the section I wanted and add in a legend, scale bar, title etc. in layout view and then export as a pdf. For the next map I would then need to drag all of the elements out of the template and add in the new section's elements. I know have a hodgepodge of legends, titles, and other things surrounding the layout view template. I finally printed out my maps and realized that the legends were too big, the colors too opaque on an 11x17 sheet in real life, among other mistakes. I know this was a poorly executed plan from the get-go, I'm an intern, I'm supposed to make mistakes like this. My question is, is there a way to save your layout view not as a gif or pdf, so it is still living and breathing in ArcMap and you can go back and make alterations if needed? Please let me in on the secret and I thank you for your help in advance.
