I'd like to associate line segments along a route with the two nodes(vertices) that make up the line segment. Point A and Point B represent segment A_B, for example. I would like an attribute field with this information. Any geoprocessing tools that do that automatically?

Thanks for any help.

Thanks for any help.

If you have an ArcInfo license there may be tools to do this, but first clarify if the vertices are the end points of a line or just vertice nodes within a polyline? I associate end points to lines all the time. You can calculate a field using the geometry calculator for the X and Y of the end points on to your line easily enough.

For a join field between points and lines I use a concatenated X/Y value in a text field. I standardize the rounding of the point to four decimal places and use leading and trailing zeros to make the concatenated point ID always 28 characters long and sortable using this python formula:

Parser: Python

Expression for Line From Point:

Expression for Line To Point:

For the Points I use:

The expression can be modified for different precisions, but this works for State Plane coordinates in feet. It creates a joinable field between points and each field in a polyline for the end points.

Anyway, I associate points and lines all the time with not much beyond the field calculator and the Features to Points tool.
