Extending lines via geoprocessing

I was wondering if anyone had some advice as to how to geoprocess a large feature class, where I would like all the lines extended a given distance.

The context is that I'm trying to construct some polygons to fill voids in a parcel fabric (casements) between parcels. I need to also differentiate between the tenure of the parcels, in that they will be either freehold or Crown.

I would like to take the existing parcel fabric, convert the polygon features to lines, extend the lines by (for arguments sake) 50 metres, then convert the lines back to polygons. This should then generate the polygons I need to fill the voids.

The 'Extend Line' tool looks promising, but as the linework generated from the polygons will be closed, I suspect this won't work. I've also seen a Python tool called 'extendline' which may be useful, however I have no Python experience.

Can anyone suggest a method via the geoprocessing tools? I have access to an ArcInfo licence.
